Ormesby, Filby and Thurne

Another sunny day!  I made up a picnic lunch and with my map to hand set off to find Ormesby church.  It was right by the main road and thankfully there was a huge car park.  Hamish and I had a good wander around and then returned to the car.

A quick check at my map and I drove on to find Filby church which I eventually found after missing the little road that led to it.  I was hoping to find the name Shrimpling here but I was unlucky. 

I was now thinking about somewhere to stop for lunch and drove to the parking area at the far side of Filby bridge.  Unfortunately you couldn’t see any water from the car park and dogs were not allowed on the walk to Ormesby Little Broad …

I took a short walk to Filby bridge but it just took me back to the main road …

Plan B was needed and so I drove to Thurne Dyke, parked on the Staithe, took my chair and lunch and sat in brilliantly warm sunshine to enjoy my sandwich …

Hamish seemed to have spotted something but I’ve no idea what it was!

After eating I took my chair to the entrance of the dyke and sat in the sunshine watching the world go by.  It was so relaxing …

I had a look around the little shop ‘Ramblers’ and then called in to see Crocus on my way back to site …

Nick and Dave had been busy since my last visit. 

As I was leaving my phone rang and it was Sue Hines from the blog ‘Lady Louise’.  Each year she produces beautiful calendars and as she had been helping with the Barton Regatta she was calling in to the campsite to deliver mine today.  We’d followed each others blogs, messaged and emailed but had never met.  She joined us in the motor home and we had a lovely chat over a cuppa.  Thank you Sue for another brilliant calendar especially for March 2015 which features Sally!

How Hill

It was the first Russian F1 race today so I stayed in to watch it then after lunch I took Hamish for a walk at How Hill.  It’s really quite close to the campsite and is a lovely place to walk or sit and watch the boats.  I popped into Toad Hole Cottage to buy an ice-cream and then found a bench which was by the Electric Eel landing stage.  There was a constant stream of boats passing by …

You’ll notice I only photograph yachts!  It was a very pleasant hour or so that we spent there …

Back on site and I suddenly heard a racket in the sky.  A flock of geese were flying over us …

Upton and Ranworth

The forecast was pretty good for today so with lunch packed and Hamish in the car we set off for Upton.  We stopped at the church on our way to the dyke …

After parking the car we began the walk down the side of the dyke to the River Bure.  It was quite windy but the sun was out most of the time.  When we reached the end I sat Hamish on the bench.  The last time we were here Mike had sat in the same place – memories …

Hamish was quite pleased to be going back …

I don’t think there can be any yachts out on hire as the moorings were pretty full …

Back on the road again and we made for Ranworth.  It was time for lunch and luckily there was a parking place for me on the Staithe   After I’d eaten we had a walk around the moorings and I fed the ducks while watching a group getting ready to go on a trip …

After a quick look around the shop and another fridge magnet purchased (I’ll be needing an extra fridge for all my magnets!), we set off again heading for Woodbastwick.  I stopped outside the church for a photo or two …

No more stops today so after carrying on through Wroxham and back to Ludham Bridge we arrived back at the site.  Unfortunately for one of the vans it had been just that bit too windy for the half-awning which had been blown off its poles and over the roof …

Thankfully for them it didn’t rain or their chairs would have been soaked!

Packing Up Time

I was woken this morning at about 5 o’clock by something making a racket outside.  When I got up at 7 o’clock I looked to see what it was and this was the very noisy guilty party …

We’d done a load of packing last night so it was just a case of filling a trolley and putting it all in the cars along with the dogs …

After sorting out a lovely refund on fuel – we’d only used 32 litres – we drove to Ludham Bridge for the traditional final morning breakfast in the Wayfarers Cafe.

We said goodbye to Jamie and Phill and set off for Ash Vale where once again I’d stay the night at Simon’s and drive home to Cornwall in the morning.
